LOT Polish Airlines launches direct Delhi Warsaw flight

LOT Polish Airlines, the national carrier of Poland and the leading carrier of Central and Eastern Europe, has started operation between Delhi Warsaw, the capital of Poland. The first Dreamliner of LOT touched down in Delhi yesterday morning and will operate five days a week on the route. The opening of the Delhi – Warsaw route is part of the airline’s larger route expansion to Asia in recent times.

Promising fastest access between India and Central and Eastern Europe, LOT expects to carry a good mix of leisure travellers who want to explore both countries as well as the region around as well as Business travellers. Speaking to media in Delhi, Rafat Milczarski, CEO of the Airline said that they will be offering the best product, the Dreamliner, which is the backbone of the airline company on the Warsaw – Delhi route. He said that the airline will offer a convenient gateway to explore Europe as well as for transit to the US and Canada. “We connect to a lot of cities of Europe in less than an hour through our hub, Warsaw Chopin Airport,” he said.

A Star Alliance group carrier, LOT Polish Airline will have code share with Air India, the local Star Alliance partner for the India domestic route.

LOT will offer three-class service of LOT Business Class, LOT Premium Economy and Economy Class with options of both Indian vegetarian and non-vegetarian food platter.

“We are the clear leader in aviation in Central Europe. We have demonstrated fantastic turnaround in the last decade,” said Milczarski. In the last three years the airline has almost doubled the number of planes from 44 to 80 and the number of routes from 41 to 104. The carrier has carried 9 million passengers last year, compared to just 4.3 million in 2015, he said.

Amit Ray, Regional Director for DACH & India said that the decision to start with five frequencies on the route itself shows the company’s commitment to the route. He said that the new connectivity will give access to explore the entire central and eastern Europe and also the Baltic states. He said that the airline is building a second hub in Budapest and have started operating both regional as well as long haul flights to the US to JFK. “We will be soon launching our flight to Seoul from Budapest,” he said.

Talking about the potential traffic on the route, Ray said that they will work with travel trade partners who service the corporate clients in the market to tap the business segment along with the leisure traffic to Europe. “We hope to service a lot of trade fair traffic which goes to destinations like Berlin, Hannover, Nuremberg, Stuttgart, etc. which are not directly connected today,” he added. “We will work strongly collaboratively with travel trade which we understand is key in markets like India,” he said, when asked about the sales strategy.
